Roswell Green Expo To Feature Rain Barrel Workshop

The workshop will be held during the 4th annual Green Expo, which is set for Feb. 7 at the Hembree Park Activity Building.

If you’re planning to attend Saturday’s 4th annual Roswell Green Expo, you may want to also check out the Rain Barrel Workshop.

The city still has several slots available for residents to sign up and participate in the workshop. Using a rain barrel is a smart, sustainable, cost-effective way to collect and redistribute water for your garden, houseplants, or other areas of your residence, Roswell said in its news release.

Rain barrels can cost upwards of $100 or more. This workshop — complete with the barrel and all the materials you need — is only $10.

The expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 7. at Hembree Park Activity Building at 850 Hembree Road. The Green Expo’s mission is to “educate residents about environmentally responsible, sustainable practices they can incorporate into their homes and lives,” the city said in its press release.

Saturday’s event will include:

  • The Green Market, showcasing many local and regional vendors, non-profit organizations and a diverse array of environmentally friendly services and products.
  • Favorite costumed characters, including “KiRBy” from Keep Roswell Beautiful, EcoMan, city of Roswell’s Roz the Squirrel, Captain Planet, and several native species characters from the Chattahoochee Nature Center.
  • Our first-ever mascot dance-off!
  • “Health Starts Here” seminar with Whole Foods Market-Avalon
  • Keep North Fulton Beautiful’s “SuperPals” Puppet Show
  • KRB’s Earth Balloon
  • “Green Yourself” photo booth
  • Pet adoptions with Angels Among Us
  • Fulton County’s Wheel of Water Game
  • Pottery demonstrations with A.J. Argentina

And in celebration of the city of Roswell installing four electric vehicle charging stations in the coming months, the city will the following sponsors and highlights to its lineup: a residential electric vehicle charging station giveaway from GE Energy Management; and a chance to check out the new 2015 BMW i3 electric vehicle with United BMW of Roswell.

“The expo is a great way for residents to learn about being green while having fun, and none of it would be possible without the support of our sponsors and vendors,” said Janet Liberman, co-chair of the Roswell Green Expo and Executive Director of Keep Roswell Beautiful. “The whole event is designed to actively engage community members while teaching simple ways to be sustainable and green. It is the perfect way for businesses and organizations to let the community know that they want to be part of a greener tomorrow!”
