U.S. News and World Report has released its 2015 Best High Schools list, and several north Fulton County high schools stand shoulder to shoulder among other notable institutions.

The national rankings includes data on more than 21,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.

The data reviewed by U.S. News and World Report was based upon the 2012-13 school year and included student math and reading results from each state’s high school proficiency tests.
It also reviewed the academic performance of disadvantaged students — black, Hispanic and low-income — and the percentage of students who took rigorous courses, such as Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes. A complete review of its methodology can be viewed here.
National rankings were also broken down by state. In Georgia, the top 10 high schools schools were mostly situated in metro Atlanta.
U.S. News and World Report’s top high schools in Georgia (with their national rank noted in parenthesis) are:
- Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology, Gwinnett (4)
- Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, Richmond (74)
- Columbus High School, Muscogee (85)
- DeKalb School of the Arts, DeKalb (108)
- Savannah Arts Academy, Chatham (173)
- Milton High School, Fulton (187)
- Walton High School, Cobb (223)
- Northview High School, Fulton (236)
- Johns Creek High School, Fulton (277)
- Alpharetta High School, Fulton (286)
Other north Fulton County high school rankings include: Chattahoochee High School at No. 11 (328), Roswell High School at No. 13 (364), Fulton Science Academy High School at No. 21 (573) and Cambridge High School at No. 28 (747).
Of the Georgia schools ranked in 2015 for the national list, 19 were awarded gold medals, 45 earned silver medals and 69 received bronze medals, U.S. News notes.
