The Roswell City Council on Wednesday approved a resolution asking the United States Postal Service to allow the Roswell name to be used as an alternate for its residents who otherwise live within an Alpharetta or Milton zip code boundary.
It also approved a resolution requesting the help Georgia’s 6th Congressional District office of Tom Price, a fellow Roswell resident, in the city’s efforts.

The city notes zip codes 30009, 30022 and 30004 have areas inside its city limits, but use either an Alpharetta or Milton address for mail purposes. Both 30022 and 30009 are designated with an Alpharetta mailing address while 30004 is registered as a Milton mailing address.
Roswell areas within the 30022 boundary are situated along the east-southeast side of the city along Holcomb Bridge, Nesbit Ferry and Old Alabama roads and their side streets. The 30009 area includes parcels along the Old Roswell Road corridor and includes portions of Hembree Road, Wills Road and Westside Parkway.
The 30004 boundary includes areas in Roswell around Arnold Mill, Rucker and Crabapple roads.
Roswell provided a breakdown of the number of parcels and businesses that are affected by the current stipulations:
- 30022: 1,438 parcels and 249 business licenses;
- 30009: 98 parcels and 59 business licenses; and
- 30004: 352 parcels and 60 business licenses.
Local governments in which subject properties are physically located must submit a letter to USPS’s regional director requesting the change.
USPS will then evaluate the request, and ”consider alternate city names as a possible solution for ’community identity’,” city staff said in the council meeting agenda packet.
