The officer was patrolling the area of Old Roswell Road and Commerce Parkway around 1 a.m. July 8 when he was shot at from a passing vehicle, police spokesperson Zachary Frommer said.
The cop tried to stop the vehicle, but a short chase ensued and the suspect eventually crashed the Ford Explorer on Commerce Parkway.

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Victor Alonzo Majia Nunez of Riverdale, was taken into custody. No one was injured, and neither the officer nor his vehicle were struck during the shooting, Frommer added.
Police received initial information that there was possibly second person involved, so a perimeter was set up and a search was conducted with the help of officers from Alpharetta and Cobb County, deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and a helicopter team from the Atlanta Police Department.
The investigation revealed there was only one suspect, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, which Roswell police say was stolen.
Majia Nunez was transported to the Roswell Detention Center where he has been interviewed by detectives, "but his cooperation has been limited," Frommer added.
The investigation remains ongoing, but Frommer stated information on a motive has not been released and the weapon police believe was used in the shooting has not been recovered.
Charges are pending against Majia Nunez, and will likely include aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of methamphetamine, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding and other charges related to the stolen vehicle.
The Roswell shooting comes on the heels of tragedy out of Dallas late Thursday evening where snipers killed five officers and wounded seven during a protest over recent police killings of black men.
