Roswell, GA -- If you’re going to impose term limits for one elected official, why not make it a rule for all?

That seems to be the sentiment behind the Roswell City Council’s latest move. Council members on Monday voted 4-2 to approve a resolution to amend the charter to allow the change, this time pertaining to themselves.
Council members Nancy Diamond and Jerry Orlans voted against the measure.

The change, which has to be enacted by the Georgia General Assembly, would add language to limit the number of terms a person may hold on the City Council to three, consecutive full terms “provided that no elected terms served prior to 2017 shall be counted toward such limits, and that this enactment shall be prospective in nature and limit only future consecutive full terms of Council,” according to the resolution.
Currently, Roswell has no term limits for Council members. The resolution’s passage comes on the heels of the City Council last month voting to approve a resolution asking state legislators to impose term limits on the office of mayor.
