Qualifying Ends For Sandy Springs Special Election
Five candidates are in the running to serve out Graham McDonald's unexpired term for the District 3 seat on the City Council.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Sandy Springs voters in District 3 won't have a shortage of candidates to choose from when they head to the polls May 24 to choose their new representative on the City Council.

Five candidates qualified this week to fill the seat, which was vacated when Graham McDonald chose to run for the State House District 52 seat.

Advance voting for the race will take between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, May 2-20 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at the North Fulton Annex at 7741 Roswell Road.
The nonpartisan election will be held in the Round Program Building at Hammond Park at 6005 Glenridge Drive. The winner of the race will serve out the unexpired term until the 2017 general election.
Citizens who live District 3 and wish to cast ballots in the race must be registered to vote by April 26, 2016.
For District 3 residents who'd like to vote by absentee ballot, you can request an absentee ballot by downloading an application from the city’s website (www.sandyspringsga.gov/vote) and returning the application to the city clerk's office at City Hall, which is located at 7840 Roswell Road Building 500.
Absentee ballots can also be returned via fax (770-206-1420) or via email at vote@sandyspringsga.gov.
On a similar note, citizens who also wish to vote absentee in the May 24 general primary must submit a separate request to the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections Voter Division, which handles voter registration for all county residents, regardless where a person resides.
