Taboo Alcohol License, Hines Proposal Back on Sandy Springs Agenda

The two topics, which have been tabled at earlier meetings, will be considered during the City Council's meeting on Tuesday.

The Sandy Springs City Council on Tuesday will take up two topics that have been delayed twice in the last two months: granting an alcohol license to Taboo 3000 and a request from Hines to rezone 14.31 acres on the east side of the city to accommodate a large mixed-use development.

The council’s meeting will start at 6 p.m. Nov. 18 at Sandy Springs City Hall.

Sandy Springs leaders in September approved a 60-day alcohol license for the Taboo 3000 after the raised questions about its ownership. That temporary license came at the request of City Attorney Wendell Willard, which he said would give him time to track down missing information in the application that would indicate when the closing took place.

The request to grant a permanent license was once again delayed on Nov. 4, as applicant Kenneth Durden was unable to attend the meeting to answer questions Willard had for him.

Hines has petiitoned the city for the rezoning to allow for the development of 150,000 square feet of retail space, 1.5 million square feet of office space, a 250-room hotel and a 500-unit multi-family structure. The company is also requesting a permit to operate a 25-story and 50-story office buildings, a 25-story multi-family building and 25-story hotel.

The vacant land is bordered by Georgia 400 to the west, Peachtree Dunwoody Road to the east, Abernathy Road to the north and Mount Vernon Highway to the south.

Sandy Springs leaders in September initially deferred the project, as the applicant presented a revised proposal that would reduce the overall density of the project. However, a public notice error forced the council in October to once again defer the project.

The council will also consider a program manager agreement with Carter Selig Enterprises, the master developer for its City Center project, and a recommended short list of construction management at risk companies for the project.

The complete agenda for Tuesday’s meeting can be viewed on the city’s website. Sandy Springs City Hall is at 7840 Roswell Road and the Council Chambers are in Building 500.
