📰 News we're reading

1. Healthy Savannah Observes Third Year of CDC REACH Grant Progress (savannahceo.com) — Healthy Savannah is marking three years of CDC REACH grant work by expanding breastfeeding support across Savannah and Chatham County, from donating books to libraries to growing its "Breastfeeding Welcome Here" campaign. Local businesses, libraries, and health partners are creating more breastfeeding-friendly spaces, while events and outreach aim to reduce health disparities and make healthy choices easier for families.

2. Q&A with Two Chefs New to Savannah (savannahmagazine.com) — Savannah diners are getting to know two acclaimed new chefs who've recently joined the city's restaurant scene, leading kitchens at Thompson Savannah and La Vetta. They share how local farms, Tybee oysters, Forsyth Farmers' Market, and neighborhoods like Starland are shaping their menus, and why Savannah's hospitality and ingredients are inspiring them to put down roots here.

3. IVECCS brings major economic boost to Savannah (wjcl.com) — Savannah is welcoming its largest convention ever this week, as more than 5,000 veterinary professionals gather at the expanded Savannah Convention Center through Thursday, bringing an expected $1.3 million boost to local businesses. Attendees are filling nearly 5,500 hotel room nights and spending at restaurants and shops, showcasing how the new convention center expansion is already paying off for the city's economy.

4. Chatham County, Georgia just moved to freeze new large-scale data centers for 155 days in unincorporated areas, after Savannah approved its own 155-day pause two weeks earlier (dmnews.com) — Savannah residents should know that both the city and Chatham County have enacted 155-day pauses on new large-scale data centers while they write rules on water, power, noise, and land use. These temporary moratoria don't ban data centers outright but give local officials time to set standards before any new AI-scale projects move forward in and around Savannah.

5. Chatham EMS treat multiple people for heat exhaustion at Battle of the Bands (wsav.com) — Multiple people at Savannah State's Battle of the Bands in Savannah were treated for heat exhaustion as temperatures and humidity pushed the heat index to 104 degrees. Chatham EMS sent six units, and officials are reminding residents how high humidity interferes with the body's natural cooling and can quickly lead to heat-related illness.
