Two dead after Savannah shooting and barricade, police say (savannahnow.com) — Two people are dead after what Savannah police describe as an apparent murder-suicide Thursday on East Broad Street, following a shooting that left one man dying at Memorial Health. The suspected gunman barricaded himself inside a shared home before officers, including SWAT and negotiators, later found him dead from an apparent self-inflicted wound; the investigation continues.
   

2. Savannah City Council approves 155-day moratorium on large-scale data centers (wtoc.com) — Savannah City Council has enacted a 155-day moratorium on new large-scale data centers within city limits, giving leaders time to study their impacts on neighborhoods, water, noise, and the power grid. Mayor Van Johnson says the pause will help determine whether these projects' jobs and tax benefits truly outweigh long-term costs for Savannah residents.
   

3. Savannah Ghost Pirates unveil 2026-27 theme schedule with 'Star Wars,' 'The Office' nights and more (wjcl.com) — Savannah hockey fans can start planning now: the Ghost Pirates just released their full 2026-27 promotional schedule at Enmarket Arena, packed with theme nights from Star Wars and The Office to K‑Pop and St. Patrick's parties. The season opens Oct. 16-17, with family-focused events, charity nights, and Sunday Publix Family Funday running through Fan Appreciation Weekend in April.
   

4. Savannah convicted felon indicted on murder, cocaine trafficking charges (wtoc.com) — A Savannah man has been indicted on murder and related charges after an April shooting near Carter and Chambers streets that later proved fatal for his neighbor. Prosecutors say police tied a recovered rifle to shell casings at the scene and also found a large quantity of cocaine when he was arrested.
   

5. Georgia labor commissioner discusses workforce priorities during Savannah visit (wtoc.com) — Georgia Labor Commissioner Barbara Rivera Holmes visited Savannah to highlight new workforce priorities, including overhauling the state's unemployment system and expanding re-employment services. She pointed to Savannah's career center and diverse economy, noting local employers' demand for tech-savvy, reliable workers and emphasizing that Savannah currently has the lowest unemployment rate in Georgia.
