The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Smyrna-Vinings.

Hello all. It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Daily. Here's what you need to know about what's happening in town.

First, today's weather:

Cloudy, humid; a p.m. t-storm. High: 85 Low: 68.

Here are the top three stories today in Smyrna-Vinings:

  1. Health officials are urging vaccinations and boosters as new COVID-19 cases spike across Georgia. The new Omicron sub-variant, BA.5, transmits from person to person easily and is notably better at resisting antibodies. For help scheduling a shot, call the Georgia Department of Health's helpline at 888-457-0186. (WABE 90.1 FM)
  2. A missing 76-year-old man with Alzheimer's has been located in southwest Atlanta. Joseph L. Mosley was last seen around 7:30 a.m. on Jul. 13 at Regency Park Drive before his daughter contacted the police. Mosley was "located in good health" and was reunited with his daughter. 3. Meet the newest principal for Marietta High School: Dr. Eric L. Holland. Holland has 23 years of administrative experience, recently serving as principal of Rome High School. Holland will officially become Marietta's principal on Jul. 18. Kerry Minervini, chair of the Board of Education, said, "Under Dr. Holland's leadership, the Rome High School community saw growth and improvement in their academic offerings and outcomes, as well as expanded extracurricular opportunities and family engagement."
