Atlanta Man Drowns While Swimming in the Chattahoochee

Atlanta, GA -- Cobb County police say an 18-year-old Atlanta man drowned early Wednesday evening while swimming in the Chattahoochee River.

Adil Chowdhury was swimming with family and friends in the river around an area known as “diving rock” off Sandy Point when according to witnesses, he disappeared underwater.

With the assistance of scuba divers and swift water rescue personnel from both the Atlanta Fire Department and Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services, Chowdhury's body was recovered around 8:30 pm.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office has assumed jurisdiction in the case.
