Braves Could Build Tallest Building In Cobb County

SMYRNA, GA — The path has been cleared for the Atlanta Braves to build what would become the tallest building in Cobb County.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved increasing the maximum height of an office complex planned for next to the Braves' SunTrust Park. At the approved height of 420 feet, the building would be about 120 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty, the AJC notes.

The board did not have to change the site's zoning because it is already zoned for commercial use.

The plan must still be cleared by the Federal Aviation Administration because of how close the SunTrust Park area is to Dobbins Air Reserve Base, according to the commission, but that is not expected to be a problem.

The AJC reports that German industrial company Thyssenkrupp is considering the development as a possible site for a new research and development facility.
