City Council Considers Body Shop Plan, Gas Deal

The Smyrna City Council will meet on Monday evening.

The Smyrna City Council will vote on a waiver of development fees for a proposed body shop on Dixie Avenue during their Monday evening meeting.

If the council approves the measure, Barrow Enterprises will not pay development fees for a body shop it plans to build at 2261 Dixie Avenue. The 0.83 acre lot is near the intersection of Park Drive. Building elevations supplied by Barrow Enterprises show the body shop will have the capacity to service at least five cars at a time.

Earlier this year, the council approved the development of the Smyrna-Osborne Enterprise Zone, which offers waived fees or reduced ad valorem property taxes to businesses or developments. Businesses can qualify for the incentives by creating at least five permanent jobs, while developers who invest more than five times the value of their property are equally eligible for rewards.

The council will also consider signing a memorandum of agreement with Gas South to create the Gas South-Smyrna Affinity Program, which will offer natural gas discounts to Gas South’s Smyrna customers and will name Gas South a preferred partner of the city.

In addition, Gas South would pay the city $12 for each new residential customer and $24 for each new business customer the company signs up during the term of the partnership.

If approved, the city will be obligated to consider adding information about the affinity program to its water bills.

The Smyrna City Council will meet at Smyrna City Hall at 7:30 p.m. Monday’s meeting is broadcast on Charter Cable channel 19, but Smyrna-Vinings Patch will link to an online stream available for residents who do not have Charter Cable and cannot attend the meeting in person.
