Cobb Airport Seeking Approval for Cuba Flights

McCollum Field has filed a "Gateway to Cuba" request.

SMYRNA, GA -- Cobb County's airport has filed a request with the federal government for direct flights to Cuba.

The “Gateway to Cuba” request was made with the U.S. Transportation Security Administration.

The airport already has a U.S. customs inspection facility and metro Atlanta's longest general aviation runway, 6,311 feet, according to the AJC.

Earlier this year, President Obama announced the normalization of relations with Cuba, one of the last Communist strongholds in the world.
