Here are the top 3 stories today in Smyrna-Vinings:
- According to officials, 52-year-old Smyrna resident Alexander Azarian was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of a child after he was connected to an email account that sent and received child sexual abuse material. The material dated back to 2007. Police executed a search warrant and confirmed that the material existed on a cell phone found in Azarian's home. (CBS 46)
- The Cobb Animal Services Shelter has officially reopened for business after closing two weeks ago for a case of "strep zoo," a contagious virus found in one of the dogs. All of the animals have since been treated and tested for the virus and visitors are welcome back with an appointment. (Cobb County Government via Twitter)
- Smyrna Parks and Recreation will close parts of Lake Court Park starting Monday, Aug. 8, due to maintenance. The Lake Court Dog Park will be closed for turf maintenance until a tentative end date of Monday, Aug. 22. The Lake Court Park Restrooms will be closed for painting and reopen on Wednesday, Aug. 10. - Smyrna Parks and Recreation is offering Paint and Sips classes in September. Girl's Night Out will include mocktails while friends gather to paint an Autumn Evening! Family Fun Glow Night will include light refreshments while families have fun painting with Glow in the Dark paints! You can sign up here — space is limited. - Best Friends in Atlanta announced a Clear the Shelters event aimed at getting many of their pets adopted. The event will begin on Aug. 6 at Dogma Day Care in Smyrna. Starting at 11 a.m., all fees will be waived on adoptable pets. The blowout event will have many of the pets available for adoption at Dogma Day Care. The event will also have free giveaways. All the pets at the event have been vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. See pets available for adoption here. (CBS 46)
