🌱 Cobb County Annexations + Sickle Cell Foundation of GA's 42nd Race

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Smyrna-Vinings.

Hey, everybody! It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Daily. Let's get this Tuesday started off right, with a quick guide to everything you need to know about what's happening around town.

First, today's weather:

A stray afternoon t-storm. High: 81 Low: 70.

Here are the top three stories today in Smyrna-Vinings:

  1. Atlanta actor Regina Ting Chen was a fan of 'Stranger Things' before she was cast as Ms. Kelly, the guidance counselor at Hawkins High, in Season 4. She told WABE during an interview that landing her dream job "was like [she] was dreaming." Chen has also landed roles in HBO's 'Watchman' and Marvel's 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.' (WABE 90.1 FM)
  2. Three annexations are on the Cobb County Board of Commissioners' agenda for June 28. Two of the annexations are into expanding Smyrna, while the other is into Acworth — a small 0.7-acre parcel of land. The county sent a non-objection annexation notice to Tommy Allegood, the mayor of Acworth, and staff determined the annexation has no effect on the Future Land Use Plan. (Cobb County Courier)
  3. The Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia announced its 42nd race in downtown East Point on Sat., Sept. 10. The charity event will benefit Camp New Hope, a weeklong summer camp for kids and teens living with sickle cell disease. The 2022 top three finalists in the male and female categories will win a plaque and a prize, which includes an 11-inch Apple iPad Pro, a 55-inch flat-screen TV, or a $125 Visa Gift Card.
