Cobb County Coronavirus Update: 28 New Cases, No New Deaths

COBB COUNTY, GA – There are 28 additional cases of the new coronavirus in Cobb County as of Saturday morning, up from the 1072 confirmed cases reported on Friday afternoon. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the county to 1100

There have been no new coronavirus-related deaths since Friday afternoon. The total virus-related deaths in the county remains 51 as of Saturday morning, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

In Cobb County, these numbers mean there are more than 140 positive cases of the coronavirus for every 100,000 people.

Here's the breakdown of deaths in Cobb County by age:

• 20-29: 1 death
• 30-39: 3 deaths
• 50-59: 5 deaths
• 60-69: 8 deaths
• 70+: 34 deaths

SCHOOLS
Governor Brian Kemp has announced that all K-12 schools in Georgia will remain closed for in-person instruction for the remainder of this school year.

Marietta High School will be hosting a virtual "Roaring 20s" prom Saturday night, the original date of the in-person prom. Marietta High School alumnus DJ Ricky Moss will be at the high school – alone – streaming his set for all students to watch. MORE

For the rest of the 2019-2020 school year, digital learning will occur on a Monday through Thursday schedule. Each Friday will be an opportunity for students to independently review their progress from the previous week and to catch-up on assignments as needed. No new work or assignments will be presented to students on Fridays.

HOSPITALS

The drive-thru testing site at Jim Miller Park has expanded its testing criteria in order to help better serve the residents of Cobb County and help stop the spread of the new coronavirus. The site is not open to the public and is by appointment only. MORE

The Cobb Chamber of Commerce has compiled a database of resources for small businesses, community members and anyone impacted by COVID-19. They have also listed this resource on our COVID-19 Response pages of the City of Smyrna website under Small Business Emergency Assistance.
