Here are the top 3 stories today in Smyrna-Vinings:
- A new proposed logo for Cobb Elementary School caused immediate backlash after it was released via email to parents of students in the district. The logo contains an eagle and the initials for the school. According to many unhappy parents, the eagle looks similar to the Nazi Eagle, a symbol also used by white supremacist organizations. The school has since released a statement explaining that they would pause on the new logo while listening to stakeholder opinions. (Cobb County Courier)
- Living in a city near Atlanta may be taking a toll on your lungs. In a recent report, the American Lung Association ranked Atlanta as having the fourth-poorest air quality in the Southeast. According to the organization, unsafe levels of ozone and particle pollution are to blame and could have negative effects on the elderly, children, and pregnant women. (WABE 90.1 FM)
- At a City Council meeting on Monday night, Smyrna leaders discussed many important community topics. In a unanimous vote, the council approved a feasibility study for the development of a nature center. In addition, the council is considering the development of a fire station and a police station on Oakdale Road. The city is also transferring funds from the Pedestrian Bridge project to the Downtown and South Cobb projects. (Cobb County Courier)
