Driver Who Allegedly Struck Cobb Officer in Custody

The officer who was hit has been released from a local hospital. The suspect apprehended Wednesday afternoon is a Powder Springs man.

MARIETTA, GA -- The suspected driver of the vehicle that fled after running over a Cobb police officer has been identified and arrested.

Albert Bekari Alford, 24, of Powder Springs, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon by the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit in Fairburn, GA.

The officer who was struck by the vehicle was treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital last night and has been released.

The incident began at a BP gas station on South Cobb Drive, when an officer noticed some suspicious activity. He went to investigate and that's when the suspects took off, striking him with their vehicle.

Other police units then pursued the vehicle, and the chase ended near the Vinings Plantation subdivision, where the suspects then fled on foot.
