Man Steals $28,000 Diamond From Smyrna Jewelry Store

He swapped it with a fake diamond on Monday at D. Geller & Son on Cobb Parkway.

SMYRNA, GA -- A man swapped a fake diamond for a real one -- as in, $28,000 worth of real -- and walked right out the front door of a Cobb Parkway jewelry store, while employees looked on.

The incident happened Monday at D. Geller & Son, reports the AJC. The man spent about two hours in the store looking at engagement diamonds, and then returned, saying he wanted to buy one.

When he returned, he told employees he was stepping outside for a cigarette, and then walked away. Employees then noticed he had swapped the real, two-carat diamond with a fake one, resulting in what one worker called “a stomach-dropping experience.”
