Marietta Man Charged in Smyrna Traffic Fatality
Javier Alvarado-Castro has been charged with DUI and vehicular homicide in a Sunday afternoon crash.
MARIETTA, GA — A 39-year-old Marietta man has been charged in Sunday's traffic accident that killed one of his passengers.
Cobb police say Javier Alvarado-Castro has been charged with D.U.I., failure to maintain lane and first degree vehicular homicide.
The crash happened on South Cobb Drive near Oak Street around 4:30. A Mercury Grand Marquis was approaching the intersection at the same time a Honda Pilot was coming from the other direction.

The Mercury traveled into the northbound lanes and into the path of the Honda.
Stephen Gilchrist, 58, of Woodstock, was driving the Honda. He was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with minor injuries.

Police says Alvarado-Castro was driving the Mercury with two passengers, one of whom -- Javier Alvarado, 62, of Marietta -- died at Wellstar Kennestone from crash-related injuries. The other passenger suffered minor injuries.
