New Hank Aaron Statue Planned for SunTrust Park
The Atlanta Braves are commissioning a new monument for the man many believe to be baseball's all-time home run leader.

A new Hank Aaron statue has been commissioned for SunTrust Park, the new home of the Atlanta Braves.
When the Braves announced plans to move to Cobb County, a great deal of controversy ensued over who owned the statue of Aaron now on the grounds of Turner Field. Eventually, the Braves and the Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority agreed to keep the statue downtown.
The statue will be created by Ross Rossin. According to his website, Rossin has created portraits for numerous local and national business, sports and political figures, including Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United owner Arthur Blank; former Georgia governor and first lady Sonny and Mary Perdue; former U.S. Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush; and former Coca-Cola chairman and CEO Roberto Goizueta.

In 2014, the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery added Rossin's portrait of Maya Angelou to its permanent collection. This is his fourth painting in the prestigious institution alongside his earlier portraits of famed actor Morgan Freeman, civil rights activist Ambassador Andrew Young and Aaron.
