Smyrna-based Decks and More Wins International Construction Award

Decks and More (www.decksandmore.biz), a Smyrna-based remodeling company, has received the first place award in the “Best Porch” category from the North American Deck and Railing Association (NADRA, www.nadra.org). The award was for a Southern-style porch built for a Smyrna, Ga. family, and was announced at the recent NADRA national conference. The Sixth Annual NADRA Awards Competition was open to deck and porch builders across the U.S., Canada and Australia, and the judging committee reviewed hundreds of entries to choose the category winners.

“This was an extremely rewarding remodeling project from concept to completion, and my team and I are very happy to have earned the ‘Best Porch’ award for our work,” said Frank Pologruto, president of Decks and More. “The homeowner asked us to create a spacious porch that fit the traditional design of the home and showcased what they called ‘Southern grace’. Drawing on traditional Southern architectural elements, we designed the porch with oversized columns wrapped with PVC materials to increase longevity, along with elegant curved archways and custom crown molding. The solid surface floor is a beautiful slate tile, and the specially-designed knee wall with shadow box trim work gives the new space a polished look both inside and out. We incorporated low voltage LED lights and realized substantial cost savings for the homeowner by utilizing the home’s existing framework. Most importantly, a vaulted ceiling and open gable front allow maximum light to flood into the spacious outdoor living space.”

NADRA holds its deck competition annually, and entries are judged on four aspects: whether or not the client’s needs were met, use of space, how the space functions and overall appearance. The North American organization is made up of deck builders, inspectors, manufacturers, dealers/distributors, lumberyards, wholesalers, retailers and service providers to the deck and railing industry.
