Smyrna Man Sentenced After Raping Disabled Woman

Aubrey James Glaze admitted to assaulting the woman a year ago.

MARIETTA, GA -- A Smyrna man has pled guilty to aggravated sexual battery, incest and other charges related to an attack on an adult relative with disabilities.

Aubrey James Glaze, 52, admitted in court on Wednesday that he had attacked the woman in a Smyrna home on April 25, 2015, taking advantage of an opportunity when he knew he would be alone with the victim. The woman immediately disclosed the assault, and DNA positively identified Glaze as the perpetrator.

As part of the investigation, Smyrna Police seized Glaze’s cell phone, where they found images of child pornography. Glaze also pled guilty to seven counts of sexual exploitation of children for those images.

β€œAs is often the case with sexual predators, this defendant tried to psychologically manipulate his victim into remaining silent by telling her no one would believe her. While all crimes of this nature shock the community conscious, those that target a person with disabilities are particularly heinous,” said ADA Susan Treadaway, who prosecuted the case. β€œAnd even though this defendant thought he could control the victim, is was ultimately she who showed her true strength by choosing to be present in court for the plea so she could witness the defendant’s admission of guilt and know that she is believed.”

Cobb Superior Court Judge C. LaTain Kell sentenced Glaze to 15 years to serve in prison without parole. Once he is released, he will be subject to sex-offender probation and monitoring for the rest of his life.
