Smyrna Motorcyclist Killed in Crash

The accident happened late Saturday night at a Marietta intersection at Hollydale Methodist Church on Powder Springs Road.

MARIETTA, GA -- A 37-year-old Smyrna man was killed late Saturday night when his motorcycle collided with another car near a Marietta church.

Loyal Thompson III was pronounced dead on the scene after his Kawasaki struck a Saturn SL2 that was pulling out of a private driveway at Hollydale Methodist Church on Powder Springs Road.

When the driver of the car turned left out of the driveway, he pulled into the motorcycle's path.

The driver of the Saturn has been identified as 51 year old Lazaro Fernandez of Marietta. He was not injured in the collision, and investigators do not expect to file any charges against him.

Police believe excessive speed was a factor in the fatality crash.
