SWAT Standoff Ends At Smyrna Apartment Complex

A female hostage suffered several injuries in the hours-long standoff.

Smyrna, GA -- An hours-long SWAT standoff at a Smyrna apartment complex early Friday morning ended with a man being taken into custody and a female hostage sent to a local hospital with several reported injuries.

The standoff began around 3 am when police responded to a domestic dispute at Brighton Way Apartments. Police found a woman being held hostage by a man who told officers that he had barricaded himself inside the apartment.

Police told the AJC that the woman had suffered several injuries, but the man, who police said has a long criminal record, told officers to leave the premises.

A hostage negotiator soon arrived. Several hours later, the man surrendered peacefully and was taken to the Smyrna city jail.

No word yet on the victim's condition.
