Verdict in Fatal Shooting Outside Smyrna Restaurant

The suspect in a fatal double shooting outside a Smyrna restaurant in 2013 was found guilty by a jury on Friday.

Isadore Barboza was convicted on 13 counts, including felony murder, in a Cobb County courtroom.

He was accused of killing Ebone Driskell outside Doc’s Food and Spirits on Oct. 28, 2013. Barboza’s accomplice, Quondre Bentley, also died in the shooting.

The incident was reportedly a robbery gone wrong, when Driskell pulled out a gun to defend herself and shot Betnley. Barboza then reportedly shot Driskell.

“He left her like she was a piece of garbage in the parking lot,” prosecutor Jesse Evans said in court, according to WSBTV.

Barboza was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

According to prosecutors, a cell phone recovered from Bentley’s body led Smyrna Police detectives to a female accomplice who later admitted she had driven Barboza and Bentley to Doc’s for the armed robbery. She testified that she picked Barboza up after the incident.

“On October 28, 2013, this defendant had a plan. He set out to ambush his victims in the hopes of getting easy money,” Evans said in a release. “Instead, he maliciously took Ebone Driskell’s life.”
