Visitation, Funeral Plans for Smyrna Deputy Police Chief Announced

Visitation for Michael Brown will last between 5 and 8 p.m. Thursday evening, while the funeral will be held on Friday morning.

Members of the Smyrna and law enforcement communities are expected to appear in large numbers at the visitation and funeral services for the city’s late deputy chief of police.

Visitation for Michael Brown, 63, will last from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Carmichael Funeral Home on King Street in Smyrna, the city said Thursday. Motorists are asked to anticipate heavier than normal traffic on Concord and Atlanta roads and Church and King streets during the visitation.

Those who wish to attend Brown’s visitation are invited to park at Carmichael Funeral Home, Smyrna First Baptist Church, Smyrna First United Methodist Church, or behind City Hall.

Brown’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Smyrna First United Methodist Church on Concord Road, with an outdoor 21-gun salute expected at around noon. The city anticipates traffic conditions will be similar to those on Thursday, but with added activity on Concord Road.

Parking will remain similar to Thursday’s arrangement, but mourners will not be able to park at the lower lot of Smyrna First Baptist or Smyrna First United Methodist.

Brown, a 38-year veteran of the Smyrna Police Department, died suddenly of a heart attack on Monday.
