Cobb Worker Killed When Woman Drives Onto Sidewalk: Reports

The accident occurred Wednesday morning at Akers Mill Road and Galleria Drive, say media reports.

COBB COUNTY, GA — The Cobb County police are investigating a fatal Wednesday morning accident in which a woman drove a vehicle onto a sidewalk and struck a maintenance worker, according to media reports. The accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. at Akers Mill Road and Galleria Drive in Cumberland.

The accident victim's name is Joseph Poncer, 50, of Marietta, the police said. He was found dead at the scene.

According to investigators, 30-year-old Toni C. Hale of Jonesboro was traveling westbound on Akers Mill Road in a silver 2014 Nissan Versa when her vehicle left the roadway, drove onto the sidewalk and collided with Poncer.

The vehicle then collided with two light poles, re-entered the roadway and came to a stop, the police said.

Charges are pending against the driver when the investigation is complete, a police spokesman said.
