Driver Charged in Death of Snellville Pedestrian

Tiffany A. Hayes faces a vehicular homicide charge in the death of Georgette Stovall.

SNELLVILLE, GA -- A driver who struck, and ultimately killed, a woman walking her dog in Snellville has been charged in the case, police announced Thursday.

Tiffany A. Hayes, 31, of Snellville, faces charges including vehicular homicide in the death of Georgette Stovall, 51, also of Snellville.

Hayes' SUV crossed the road, jumped a curb and hit Stovall and her dog in the June 24 crash, police said.

Stovall was hospitalized and died from her injuries on July 5.

Police say Hayes was driving west on Bethany Church Road near Brannan Road as Stovall was walking her dog, Ali, on the sidewalk on the opposite side of the roadway.

Hayes, in a 2009 Honda CRV with a 7-year-old boy in the backseat, traveled across the center line and onto the curb, where she struck Stovall and Ali.

Ali, the dog, went missing for several days after the crash. She was eventually found, with minor injuries.

In addition to the vehicular homicide charge, which is a felony, Hayes faces misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, failure to maintain a single lane, driving on the wrong side of the road, no insurance and poor tire tread.
