
Change is never easy, but is inevitable. The member owned energy cooperative has grown to serve a diverse customer base.
Since 2012 the Boards of directors moved the cooperative away from it’s checkered past and has diversified its energy source portfolio. Despite selective changes to by-laws, the culture of the board however remains much like a private club. The policies concerning owner member authentic participation in business affairs do not make it convenient for owner/member engagement at all levels.
This election has historic potential because of the growth and development across the service area, the gain of new residents, and the interest across the service area in the qualifications and experience of the persons challenging three of the incumbents. If the cooperative wants to sustain a growth mindset, it needs to be welcoming to new members on its board.
