Is Cobb EMC Election a model for Controlling the Outcome?

Limiting voting participation

Charges against CEO Dwight Brown consisting of theft, racketeering, and witness tampering were dismissed in 2016. The limiting information access by members and of potential candidates for the board is being reported recently as an on-going process. Some of the controlling processes and tactics practiced by the prior Cobb EMC board have carried over to the present board in its approach to having the 2018 election with a few twists and requirements that serve only to benefit incumbents.

Incumbents are entitled to the corporation’s data that includes members contact information that is not available to persons seeking a seat on the board. Groups calling themselves Friends of Cobb EMC have somehow managed to post opposition to 2018 challengers using resources of the corporation.

The other 41 member owned energy cooperatives across Georgia each design their own operational practices for elections. Those of Cobb EMC seem to serve only the Board rather than its member owners.
