  Our Speaker and Topic: Harper Harris, Lead Interpreter, Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History 

 The next meeting of the Civil War Round Table of Cobb County will be held at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History located in downtown Kennesaw. The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two - new recuits are always welcome.  Members of the CWRTCC will have free admission to the museum before the presentation.Harper Harris, Lead Interpreter, will give a presentation on The Great Locomotive Chase that took place on April 12, 1862.Harper C. Harris was born in Cobb County, Ga. He has worked for the Southern Museum since it was the Kennesaw Civil War Museum. His passion for history is evident in the spirited Civil War programs and tours he gives on soldiers’ lives and the Great Locomotive Chase. His more than 36 years as a re-enactor give him a unique perspective on history.

 April 5, 2012:  The meeting will be held at the KSU Center. Michael K. Shaffer will give a presentation on his just released bookWashington County, Virginia in the Civil War. Mike is the Assistant Director of the Civil War Center at KSU. He is a Civil War historian, author and newspaper columnist, who has written various articles for state and local publications. Join us this evening as he speaks on his new book, available for sale and signing after the program.  At this meeting, Nancy Walther, new Superintendent of Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, will be introduced and she will tell us about her plans for the park.

 May 3, 2012: To be held at KSU Center. James Stallings Sr. of Macon, author ofGeorgia’s Confederate Soldiers Who Died as Prisoners of War 1861-1865 will give a presentation on Northern Civil War Prisons. He has a few of his books to sell and sign that night. He is not having any more printed. 

June 7, 2012:  To be held on KSU campus. Dr. Richard McMurry will give a presentation on The Common Soldier during the Civil War Dr. McMurry is a Civil War scholar, lecturer, and professor. He is the author of many books on the Civil War, including Atlanta 1864, Last Chance for the Confederacy, and The Road Past Kennesaw. Dr. McMurry has lectured extensively throughout the United States to standing room only audiences.

I was at a presentation by Dr. McMurry recently and I assure you that you will be entertained.

 Our 1^st. member back in May of last year was Thomas Warren and our 100^th. member in December was Matthew Di Mare.  

Thanks to all of you the Civil War Round Table of Cobb County continues to grow. If you have friends interested in Civil War history, please bring them along. Our membership dues are $25.00 per person a year. Our year runs from September to June. Our dues help us bring in guest speakers and for historical preservation.

For those who wish to join for the remainder of this year, through June, we have reduced the membership fee to $15.00. If you want to join for the remainder of this year and 2012-2013, the fees will be $35.00.

 Civil War News and Events: 

Our own Brad Quinlin will be on 11 Alive News starting at 6:00am Monday (2/20) in a segment about The Marietta National Cemetery.

  One of the Civil War Round Table of  Cobb County goals is to keep you informed on events taking place in this area about the Civil War. Attached is a list of events / presentations that we know of that are taking place in the next several months. If you cannot open the attachement, the newletter will be posted on our webpage. We will try to keep the calendar on our webpage up to date with events for you.
