"Smyrna in the Era of the Great Depression"

Both presentations are co-sponsored by the Smyrna Historical & Genealogical Society and the Williams Park Neighbors.

The lecture will describe Smyrna as it was in the period 1926 to 1940. Based chiefly on a close examination of city records, the censuses of 1920 and 1930,  and a set of diaries kept from 1927 to the early 1940s by local resident, Bess E. Terrell, this profusely illustrated lecture will describe how the "emergent suburb" of Smyrna, Georgia weathered the greatest economic crisis in American history.

 Bill Marchione, is a retired History Professor, author, and oral historian who moved to Smyrna from Boston, Massachusetts with his wife Mary Ann, in 2009.  Bill is an active member Smyrna Historical & Genealogical Society, and is currently serving as that organization's  Program Committee Chairman.  He also chairs the Williams Park Neighbors Local History Committee and is doing historical research for the River Line Historic Area.
