Local elections/ Qualifying week/ Hidden sectets

Local elections natter

Who makes the decisions about infrastructure in your community, economic development, zoning, curriculum in schools, enforcing Laws, mediating laws. That would be your Cobb Commissioner, Cobb County Chair, your school board, sheriff, judges. It’s not the president. Have you ever wondered how you can be candidate in local elections? Well for Cobb County Chair, Cobb Commissioner, school board, state Senator and state Representative there are no job requirements other than length of time you live in an area. You do not have to have a degree, you do not have to be a lawyer nothing just age and length of time. Now there are requirements for judge, of course you have to have earned a law degree, sheriff you have to have law enforcement certification.
Now listen closely to this there are fees that come with qualifying. To qualify and be on the ballot Cobb Commissioner, School Board, state Senator, State Representative, sheriff you have to choose a party Republican or Democrat and pay a fee. All fees are on the Cobb Elections website. And these candidates will appear on the Republican or Democrat ballot on May 19th ballot. The judge races are non partisan and their names will be on both ballots. Who ever wins the Democrat nomination or Republican nomination then their names will be on the November ballot. So guess what in some areas there will only be Democrats or Republicans on the ballots in some areas so if you only vote in November that is why you only will see one person in a race. The time to vote is in primary elections in May. Also if a person wants to run as an independent there are guidelines on the Cobb elections website, but it’s a challenge and it takes aStrategic team to qualify as an independent. So that is why people just pay the fee. If you can’t pay there is a pauper affidavit you can file but then you have to signatures which again takes a strategic team to do. Sometimes candidates choose a certain party in an area because that party is most popular in that area. At the end of the day every person share all political views. The last thing I will leave you is guess what you don’t need a degree to run for Governor either. I teach civic engagement workshops where you can learn all this information. All local elections matter local elections are important. Just because you don’t see ads on tv or on the news like the president race does not mean it’s not important. monicafordistrict4.com, working families campaign
