Proposed City of Mableton Will Create Higher Taxes, VOTE NO!

State Representative Erica Thomas is pushing hard for a City of Mableton to be placed on the ballot in the May's primary election. Since her tenure of representation for the district, this is the first piece of sound but DAMAGING legislation she has put in place as I know of. But, don't be fooled by her leading you to believe that this is a good thing, because it is not.

The East Cobb area provides 50% of the revenue for the entire county, West Cobb provides about 35% and South Cobb provides the remaining 15%. Using basic math tells you that a City of Mableton would not be able to sustain financially without a serious tax increase. Erica Thomas will tell you that there will be no tax increase. Don't believe the hype. Do the math for yourself. Think about the many politicians who said "Read my lips, no tax increase", and later the constituents received tax increases that woke them up to the point of voting these politicians out of office. The argument of sustainability is answered for you by the inclusion of unincorporated Austell. If Mableton can sustain financially as a city, why bother the residents of unincorporated Austell? We were never asked to become a part of City of Mableton. We are being told this is going to happen. That's not representation; that's dictatorship.

Also, senior citizens would lose the senior tax credit provided by the County. At age 62 you become obsolete from the expensive school taxes which constitutes about 73% of your tax bill in the unincorporated area of the county, which includes Mableton. Hopefully everyone lives to the ripe age of 62 should realize that a City of Mableton wouldn't be a good thing for the citizens residing in the area, especially the seniors.

The City of Mableton is being introduced to create jobs for people who thinks that the constituents of the community should promote and provide their lifestyle. Look at the lineup of the people promoting this and you'll have your answer. We look to our representatives to work for us but instead we end up working for them by paying higher taxes and losing benefits that truly help to make life comfortable, especially for our seniors.

The City of Mableton would be a predominately minority city with pretty much minority leadership, they are hoping. Past experiences have shown us how this works by looking at the development of the City of Stonecrest and the City of South Fulton. If I felt that the people proposing this had good intentions I would not be typing this post. One other thing, if the newly created city cannot provide all services you will be subjected to DOUBLE TAXATION as with the City of Austell.

So, when it is presented as a referendum on the ballot in May, VOTE NO. VOTE YES, and you'll get EXACTLY what you voted for, HIGHER TAXES. Vote as if your life depends on it, because actually it does. Believe me, this city would have the highest tax base as any city in the county because feasibility wise with 85% percent of revenue being taken away it would not be sustainable.
