Smyrna Kicks off PrepareAthon, Will Host Survival Festival

The city is partnering with state and federal agencies to raise awareness of disaster preparedness.

The City of Smyrna is encouraging its citizens to prepare for disasters and emergencies through two public outreach programs centered around September's National Preparedness Month.

On Friday, Sept. 27, Smyrna City Hall was the gathering point for members of local, state, and federal disaster preparedness personnel to kick off Ready Smyrna's PrepareAthon, part of a FEMA program which encourages communities to band together to increase disaster and emergency preparedness.

America's PrepareAthon has the stated goals of helping citizens understand the hazards specific to their communities, raising awareness of preparedness plans for these specific hazards, and practicing these plans until they become second nature.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation will be at Smyrna Village Green between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for a "Survival Festival," which will unite the public and disaster preparedness officials to help citizens understand the best ways to be ready in case the unthinkable happens.

Along with learning disaster preparedness skills and the city's specific preparedness plans, local vendors will be in the Village Green offering products and services that could be beneficial during a natural disaster.

Please see this flyer for more details about the schedule for the Survival Festival.
