Brrr! Think It's Cold Now? Wait Until Mid-Week

There’s good news and bad news about the impending below-freezing weather expected later this week in DeKalb County and the rest of north Georgia.

First the good news: It’s not going to snow, or ice, or sleet. Good news, indeed, unless you’re a student who is hoping for more time off after the holiday break.

Now the bad: It will be frigid enough for all three to happen.

It’s going to get cold, really cold, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, which says an Arctic cold mass will hit the area like a freight train Wednesday night with sub-freezing temps and even lower wind chills.

DeKalb County residents woke up to temps in the 30s Monday morning to start the first full week of 2015, but the mercury will plummet quickly. The weather service forecasts a low of 14 degrees Wednesday night in the DeKalb area. Thursday’s high is expected to be only 28 and then be followed by a low of 20 Thursday night. The high should be 40 on Friday.

Here’s another bit of good news:

As cold as it’ll get this week, it was even colder last year at this time. The weather service said the low temp in Atlanta on Jan 7, 2014, was only 6 degrees.
