Each year, in collaboration with the National Black Arts Festival and renowned illustrator Ashley Bryan, Auburn Avenue Research Library honors an illustrator for their commitment to the authentic and sensitive representations of people of African descent and Africana culture.
Shadra Strickland, a Stone Mountain resident, is this year's honoree. The award includes a solo exhibit of her work, a live talk with Ashley Bryan, and a traveling exhibition of my artwork throughout the 2011-12 school year.
From June 6 - July 31, 2011 "Living the Dream, the art of Shadra Strickland" will be on display at the Auburn Avenue Research Library
July 7, 2011 at 7PM, AARL will host a formal opening of the traveling exhibit featuring an intergenerational conversation/artist talk with Ashley Bryan and Shadra Strickland.
