Get Ready, DeKalb County, Winter Is Coming Early

Overnight lows Thursday and Friday nights are expected to be well below freezing.

If you haven’t broken out your cold-weather clothes yet, get to it, because it’s about to get pretty frosty around here.

According to weather forecasts, north Georgia is about to be blasted by the coldest air of the season, with low temperatures expected to dip well below freezing by Thursday night in DeKalb County and the rest of the region.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City said a cold Canadian air mass will move across the state Wednesday and push the temps down to the 20s and 30s by Friday and Saturday mornings. Wind gusts to 15 mph will make it feel even colder.

The forecast for Decatur calls for overnight lows of 27 degrees Thursday night and 25 degrees Friday. The high will be 44 Friday and 51 on Saturday, followed by a cold rain Sunday, with a high of 49.

The weather service recommends covering delicate plants and protecting your pets through the cold snap.

Freeze warnings for Thursday night have already been issued in Alabama.
