Local Church Helping DeKalb Teachers

Economic conditions have caused a decrease in both school budgets and parent supply contributions.

Mountain West Church is giving back to local school teachers and holding their annual Back 2 School Blessing services on Sunday, August 4 to reach “one more.”

Church representatives sought out six local Dekalb County school teachers to get school supply lists and teacher dream items. The church community elected to provide supplies and resources to teachers because of the influence they play in the lives of children, parents, and the local community.

The continued economic conditions have caused an increase in financial stress, but a decrease in both school budgets and parent supply contributions. Providing school supplies to these teachers is a way for the Mountain West Church community to give back and fulfill the church mission by trying to reach “one more” for the kingdom of God.

“By pouring into the lives of these local teachers, we are creating a trickle effect. Children spend so much time with their teachers. What better way to reach ‘one more’ than through equipping teachers to lead and run their classrooms better—and creating a positive experience for the children and their families,” said Pastor Yen Nguyen.

The church is still accepting donations in the form of physical items and monetary donations. The donated items will be presented to the teachers with a special service which includes prayer over the youth.
