Lou Walker Center Team Uniting for a Cure

Join the LWSC Team at the DeKalb Breast Cancer Awareness 5K Run/Walk

LITHONIA, GA. (October 19, 2017) — Earlier this month, the Lou Walker Senior Center launched their Breast Cancer Awareness Month during a Kick-Off event at the Center to celebrate member survivors, the newly diagnosed and their caretakers – see photos from the event https://adobe.ly/2y5WYkn. To further bolster their efforts, this Saturday, October 21, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Lou Walker will take part in the 2017 DeKalb Breast Cancer Awareness 5K Run/Walk “Uniting DeKalb for a Cure.”

The Lou Walker Senior Center Team is registering participants of all levels and ages. To join the LWSC Team, register online at http://bit.ly/2ga5hr1. Entry fees range from $5-$15 and all participants will receive a t-shirt. T-shirt pickup and race check-in will begin Saturday at 7:00 a.m. and the event starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. Race awards will be given to the top finishers and to top individual and team fundraisers. After the race, head to the Pink Village for fun activities and a health fair. The event will take place rain or shine.

“We are walking for our seniors and their caretakers,” said Bettye Davis, LWSC Director, “it’s a wonderful opportunity to walk with the community in unity for a cure.” This family-friendly 5K event provides an opportunity for DeKalb citizens to come together to spread awareness about the impact of breast cancer and rally around survivors or those going through treatment. All proceeds from the event go to Susan G. Komen, who will direct those resources to initiatives in DeKalb.
