Officer John William Turner is Remembered
Plaque honoring Officer Turner is presented to the city.
Jeff Wiggs, President of the DeKalb Fraternal Order of Police, presented the city of Stone Mountain with a plaque at Tuesday's meeting honoring Officer John William Turner.
Officer Turner is the only Stone Mountain Police Officer who has died in the line of duty. On November 22, 1974, Turner was killed in an automobile accident on the south-bound side of Stone Mountain-Lithonia Road while in pursuit of a suspect. He was 50 years old and had been with the force for 6 years.
While honoring Officer Turner, the Patch would also like to thank all of the men and women who serve to make our city and our county a safe place to live, raise our families, and work.
