One Dead In Lithonia Apartment Fire

Fire officials say the blaze appears to have been set accidentally.

LITHONIA, GA -- An apartment fire that killed one person early Monday morning near Lithonia appears to have been accidental, fire officials say.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the fire at Wellington Manor, in the 5800 block of Trent Walk Way, started at about 4:30 a.m.

DeKalb fire Capt. Eric Jackson told the paper that, when firefighters arrived, they discovered a person in need of help on the first floor of the building. That person was rushed to a nearby hospital, but died after arrival, Jackson said.

Officials were not identifying the victim Monday morning.

Jackson said there were no other injuries and that the fire appears to have been set accidentally.
