ATLANTA, Ga., -- Lewis Contracting Services recently broke ground on a new 31-acre site project, a soon-to-be vibrant space located in southwest Atlanta along the Beltline near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Pittsburgh Yards is a unique mixed-use project expressly aimed at improving the lives of people in Atlanta’s Pittsburgh neighborhood and the surrounding Southside communities.
What makes this project so unique is that the owners of the land, nonprofit Annie E. Casey Foundation, worked with local community members and residents to co-create the vision for this work, create, shop and play space. Their ultimate vision is to generate living-wage employment, long-term career and entrepreneurship opportunities for local residents, young adults and those in need of second chances. The design encourages community engagement and innovation, while incorporating sustainable design principles and best practices for energy and water efficiency.
The first phase of this $26 million development broke ground on March 10. CD Moody Construction Co, Inc. is the prime general contractor for this exciting new development and Lewis Contracting Services is the site development contractor for CD Moody. LCS will manage the site demolition, grading and utilities infrastructure for the proposed development which includes the demolition of concrete paving, and asphalt paving, both to be recycled for LEEDS. The installation of the infrastructure includes storm water, which consists of 1800 linear feet of RCP pipe and an underground storage capture system for rainwater which can be used as a cistern for the irrigation system and related water lines and sanitary sewer system for above-related work.
