Stone Mountain Art Classes Begin Soon at Village Church

Stone Mountain Village First United Methodist Church, known as "The Village Church," announced that art classes will begin soon led by Olivia Thomason, a member of the church congregation and widely recognized as "Georgia's Queen of Folk Art," a description bestowed by distinguished Atlanta Historian Dr. Richard Funderburke.

"We're having the first class on February 3, a Tuesday," said Ms. Thomason in making the announcement, adding that classes continue on successive Tuesdays "for five weeks, through March 3." The cost is $100.00 which includes terra cotta flower pots and other supplies. "The fun is free!"

Ms. Thomason's paintings are found in many places in Stone Mountain Village including her mural on the Pavilion, in Art Station and homes and businesses throughout the city and Greater Atlanta region.

Widely known for paintings honoring The Atlanta Braves, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and "Connemara," Carl Sandburg's home in Flat Rock, NC, and many others, Olivia Thomason's Decatur gallery, "The Primitive Eye," was awarded "Gallery of the Year," multiple times. Ms Thomason, a former librarian and book store executive, is an active member of the Stone Mountain Woman's Club and a founding member of the Stone Mountain Hookers," the renowned fishing club.
