Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8. If you live in the City of Stone Mountain, you're not only voting on Sunday alcohol sales and SPLOST, you're looking at City Council races.

Name:  Richard Mailman (incumbent, running unopposed)
Age: 52
Profession: Owner of Mailman's Yard Service and More
Political experience: 1-1/2 years as council member of City of Stone Mountain
Why running: I love the city I live in and I love the people who live here.
What do you consider to be the City of Stone Mountain's most important issues right now?  Economic growth, the well-being and safety of the citizens, and property values.

  • Age: 70
  • Political experience: None
  • Why running: Offering my knowledge and business experience to the citizens.
  • What do you consider the City of Stone Mountain's most important issues right now? Crime control, bringing additional businesses to the city, attracting more tourists. We need to get everyone together for a common goal to make this town a nice place to live.
  • Name: Mozell Sims Hurley
  • Age: 55
  • Profession: Real Estate and tax professional. Retired from Fulton County Government.
  • Political Background: first time Candidate, community involvement has lead to me run. Part of President Obama Grassroots Campaign in Stone Mountain.
  • Why running: I had no intentions of running; I had some people ask me to run because they felt like they were being under-represented and felt like what was being allocated or appropriated for other communities was not being allocated or appropriated for their areas.
  • What do you consider to be the City of Stone Mountain's most important issues right now? To have a more integrated process, with everybody being included. The homeowners feel like property values are going down because of renters and lack of code enforcement. [As a separate issue], homeowners are seeing more break-ins and the need for police presence.
  • Name: Cyril Mungal (incumbent)
  • Age:50
  • Profession: Master Plumber
  • Political experience: Two terms on the City Council of Stone Mountain
  • Why running: Running for public office is one of the best ways that one can contribute to Society.
  • What do you consider to be the City of Stone Mountain's most important issues right now? Balancing our budget without raising taxes and keeping all of our staff employed.

Name: Chakira Johnson Sallee (incumbent, running unopposed)
Age: 33
Profession: Civil Engineer
Political experience: Incumbent for Stone Mountain City Council Post #3        Why running: I am running for re-election because I believe that I can play an integral part in continuing to see our great community thrive. We have been able to accomplish a lot of great things in the past 4 years and I cannot wait to see what the next 4 brings.
What do you consider to be the City of Stone Mountain's most important issues right now? The most important issues for the City are maintaining a fiscally strong budget while continuing to provide important services to our citizens, including public safety and public works, and increasing our economic development within our commercial areas.
