Volunteer Group Host Fundraising Event to Improve Local Park
The Randolph Medlock Park Re-Birth Volunteer Committee will host its 2nd Annual 'Rock the Block at Medlock' on Saturday, August 26, 2017.

The Randolph Medlock Park Re-Birth Volunteer Committee will host its 2nd Annual ‘Rock the Block at Medlock’ on Saturday, August 26, 2017. The event will feature a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, food vendors, bounce houses, music D.J, water games and more. The event is held each year to highlight the park and raise funds for much needed improvements.
Once a beautiful sprawling 10.4-acre community hub for sports and family recreation, Randolph Medlock Park located in Stone Mountain, GA has fallen into disrepair due to systemic budget restraints. The Randolph Medlock Park Re-Birth Volunteer Committee, formed in 2016 by Sara Abrams is working with The EFFORT Foundation, the City of Stone Mountain and local community advocates to revitalize the park. “This park is a real jewel, we just want to see some improvements made so that everyone can enjoy being here”, said Abrams. Katrina Grant, who is now a middle school teacher and community organizer grow up playing basketball and other sports at Randolph Medlock Park. “This was a great place to play”, said Grant. “People were always here, we had lots of fun times at this park.”
Mike ‘The Stinger’ Glenn 3 on 3 Streetball Classic basketball tournament is the featured attraction. “This is the only basketball tournament of its kind in metro Atlanta” said David Dorbin, who organized the tournament. The tournament is free and open to youth and adult players from ages 9 thru 18 and Over. “The entire family can come out to play and watch some really good basketball”, said Dorbin. The first round of 3 on 3 play will start at 5:30 PM and awards will be presented at 8:00 PM. You can register to play in the tournament or make donations at: www.efforthelps.org
