Gas Prices Drop in DeKalb County as U.S. Increases Production

Georgia drivers are paying less of a beating at the gas pump these days, a prominent motorist club reports.

According to AAA, the average price of a gallon of gasoline at Georgia’s fuel stations was $3.34 on Sunday. Last month, drivers paid $3.49 for the same gallon of gas. During this time last year, a gallon of gas in Georgia cost an average of $3.43.

The website GasBuddy.comsays that drivers in Decatur were paying from $3.29 to $3.49 a gallon for regular gas Monday morning. While in Dunwoody, regular gas was selling for $3.36 to $3.69 a gallon Monday.

The drop in gasoline prices is attributed to increased domestic production and lower oil prices; a barrel of West Texas Intermediate sold for $97.35 at the end of business on Friday. That price is a 30-cent drop from last week.

“Motorists are reaping the benefits of booming domestic oil production which has provided the cheapest gas prices for August in years,” said AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins. “The price of oil declined slightly last week, so gas prices could slip even more this week.”
