New Superintendent Visits DeKalb Schools
Having been sworn into her new position Thursday morning, Cheryl Atkinson is making the rounds of county schools, and is scheduled at Tucker High School today.
DeKalb County Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson wasted no time in getting to know some of the district's schools.
Shortly after being sworn in Thursday morning at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Decatur, Atkinson began visiting schools in the area, which she had promised to do before the DeKalb County Board of Education approved her in a 6-3 vote last month.
Atkinson spent time at two Stone Mountain high schools Thursday: and She met with principals and several teachers, shook hands and spoke with students, and got a first-hand look at some of the classes and activities the schools have to offer.

"It was my first day and I think it was important to be in the schools," Atkinson said. "I plan to visit every school and talk with every principal."
Today she will visit Cary Reynolds Elementary in Doraville, among others, before coming to .
